Napoleon Dynamite Title Sequence is a reimagined opening sequence for the cult classic (and my favorite) film, created as a motion graphics project exploring the relationship between storytelling and design.
My process began by studying the original title sequence to understand what made it so memorable. I experimented with paper cutouts and handcrafted props to capture the film's signature mundanity and dry humor while staying true to its quirky personality. I also maintained the original's overhead, top-down perspective, and made visual callbacks to the film (Trisha's portrait) to reinforce the visual connection. Rather than relying solely on digital animation, I photographed and animated physical materials frame by frame, embracing the subtle imperfections that give stop motion its warmth and character. The result is a title sequence that pays homage to the original while offering a fresh, handcrafted interpretation through motion design.
